To better understand what you should expect when visiting the country of Belize, let’s look at the country’s weather each month. I’ll let you know the best time to visit and when hurricane season hits, so you know which month to plan your holiday for.

Belize Weather in April

April sees the weather get warmer, and this is generally the country’s driest month. Humidity levels are the lowest they are in the year, coming in at 69.7%, and average temperatures range from highs of 92°F (32°C) inland to lows of 76°F (24°C). This month also sees the Iguana Rains – light rains that help freshen things up if the heat gets too much.

Belize Weather in May

The weather continues to climb in May, with temperature averages ranging from 91°F (32°C) to 78°F (25°C). This is the end of the dry season, and rains have started to arrive. They’re still relatively light, but the humidity begins climbing up again, averaging around 71.4%.

Belize Weather in June

June is the start of the wet months in Belize. The country receives about 10 inches (25.4 cm) of rainfall, and temperature averages range from highs of 86°F (30°C) to 82°F (28°C) on the lower end. The humidity continues to climb, reaching an average of 75.3%.

Belize Weather in July

July is one of the wettest months in Belize, so don’t visit during this time unless you’re willing to get wet. Rains are generally in the morning and night, and you may see a few thunderstorms this month.

Belize Weather in August

Despite being in the middle of the wet season, August stands out because it doesn’t rain all that much. In fact, the locals call it “little dry” due to the relative lack of rain. If you can’t visit in the dry season and aren’t a fan of the rain, this is the month in which to visit. However, there is still an increased chance of tropical storms and hurricanes in August than during the dry season.

In August, average temperatures range from 90°F (32°C) to 79°F (26°C). There’s a ton of sun, ensuring the weather remains pleasant even when it rains.

Belize Weather in September

September marks the end of the green season in the country and sees average temperatures ranging from 88°F (31°C) to 77°F (23°C). This is another “little dry” month, which means it remains relatively sunny.

That being said, you’ll see more rain in September than in August. Luckily, these rains are generally limited to early morning and late at night, so they shouldn’t affect your plans for the day.

Belize Weather in October

October is another wet month. Though temperatures are relatively cool, ranging from 85°F (29°C) to 74°F (23°C), the month can see over 13 inches (33 cm) of rain. Additionally, you can expect a ton of storms and even hurricanes.

Belize Weather in November

This is a cold month – at least in terms of Belize. Temperatures peak at an average of 83°F (28°C), and on the low end, they average 72°F (22°C). This month marks an end to the hurricane season, and while you may get a hurricane or a multi-day storm, the chance is much lower.

Belize Weather in December

December marks the start of the dry months. There are a few rain showers, but significantly fewer than in November. The temperatures are still relatively chilly, ranging from 82°F (28°C) to 72°F (22°C), and humidity is at its peak, with an average of 78.5%.

Belize Hurricane Season

The hurricane season in Belize runs from June to November. As discussed, August and September are “little dry” months, which means there’s a lower risk of hurricanes during these months – but this doesn’t mean the risk is nonexistent.

International airports will shut down when the winds get too fast. While there have been very few huge hurricanes to hit Belize (only 2 Category and 3 Category 4 storms have hit the country since 1851), hurricanes and tropical storms in the country can prove deadly. So, be sure you pay attention to the weather if you’re planning your holiday during this season.

Belize Tourist Season

The peak tourist season in Belize runs from November to mid-April, with December and March being the busiest months.

The dry season during these months means visitors don’t have to worry about water sports being canceled or being unable to go sightseeing, nor do they have to worry about getting caught up in a hurricane. However, the trade-off is greater crowds and higher prices.

The low tourist season is during the wet months, from June to October. If you’re visiting at this time, you’ll likely find a ton of discounts and great value for money – but there’s always the risk you’ll get rained out or, worse, stuck in a hurricane or storm.

Final Thoughts

If you’re planning to travel to Belize, you’re likely looking to go during the peak season, which is from November to May. June to October is the low tourist season – but it’s also the wet season.

Additionally, there’s a greater risk of hurricanes and thunderstorms, while the other months are relatively dry.

Overall, Belize remains relatively pleasant throughout the year and is neither too hot nor too cold. The ocean remains pleasant as well, so there’s no worry about freezing cold waters ruining your holiday.
